Shellharbour Boat Ramp Slipway Replacement

The Boat Ramp located on Town Street Shellharbour Village is a dual-lane concrete ramp into a relatively protected Harbour. The slipway is part of Cowrie Island on the eastern most point of Shellharbour.

Over the past years the boat ramp started to raise community concerns due to the level difference in the ramp area.

Cadifern Team feels privileged to be a part of this project having had the opportunity to help build and improve local community infrastructure

The boat ramp and slipway were constructed in the early 1960s and Western side of the ramp has been reconstructed in 2017

Cadifern were engaged by Shellharbour City Council to provide a solution to the deteriorating boat ramp and to deliver a smooth and safer transition between the ramps.

The project required the construction of a cofferdam to assist with works in a water charged environment. This was followed by underwater excavation, demolition and replacement of a concrete ramp leading into the water line followed by installation of a series on pre-cast slip resistant concrete panels bedded on Elcorock containers filled with sand cement.

The pre cast concrete panels were fixed in place with underwater grout and levelled with underwater tremie concrete mix on hardwood bearers

The improvement works, provided a higher quality and safer access to the water, overall extending the life of the boat ramp for future use by emergency services commercial and recreational boat users.

Project was delivered within time, budget, quality standards all whilst adhering to a strict management of an environmentally and coastal sensitive area.
