The condition of the existing infrastructure was posing a public safety hazard. The area was identified as having several key environmental constraints including Endangered Ecological Communities, Key Fish Habitat, Aboriginal Heritage and Coastal Wetlands.
The works completed by Cadifern in April 2021 included replacement of boardwalk, widen one corner of the boardwalk to remove sharp bends, the installation of at least eight new footbridge piles and associated removal of existing infrastructure.
Site setup including a temporary site within Stuart Park, mooring a barge on Fairy Creek Lagoon for heavy plant machinery access and as a work platform.
Bridge works involved the insertion of piles, replacement of headstock/ capwales, installation of decking, bearers and handrails.
The replacement bridge piles were driven into the substrate to reduce the risk of sediment disturbance. To conduct the necessary repairs to the bridge, heavy machinery plant was mobilized. The use of a barge to float a 50-tonne piling rig from Stuart Park to the bridge across Fairy Creek lagoon.
Project Delivery
It was a very successful project. Cadifern team completed the scope ahead of program, within budget and the quality was 100%.
