Keira Mine Rd. Bank Rehabilitation and Drainage Upgrade

The Fairy and Cabbage Tree Creeks catchment is location within WCC LGA in the Illawarra Region of NSW. This catchment has a history of flooding, with extensive damage caused to private and public property located near the creeks and drainage.

Council engage Cadifern to rehabilitate the embankment adjacent to Keira Mine Road and upgrade of the drainage system between Keira Mine Rd Reserve to Fairy Creek adjacent to Edmund Rice College.

Where possible staff were innovative and proactive to changing circumstances. Staff coped very well with difficult situations and site constraints.

The scope of works included

  • Installation of preliminary embankment support measures including platypus anchors locating downstream ends of existing 2x 750mmdia. pipes
  • Breaking into 2x600mm dia. Pipes, cleaning out of existing pipes, concrete plugging, and grout filling.
  • Preparation and installation by jacking of 2x 1200dia reinforced concrete pipes.
  • Installation of permanent embankment support including screw piles
  • Reinforced concrete apron and headwall
  • Block retaining wall and scour protection
  • Installation of junction pits, 900dia. pipes
  • Earthwork to existing surface levels develop swale drain
  • Construction of new footpath

  • Signage
  • Supply and install grates, handrails, and swing gate.

All works were carried out in a manner to avoid or minimize environmental impacts at a very environmentally sensitive area.

All relevant measures, Protection and Heritage requirements were met.
